Chicks With Sticks

Monday, November 19th, 2007

Tonight is the annual potluck/yarn swap at Bliss Bar.

I’ll be there tonight not to swap, but to get some work done, have some drinks and mingle.

Come by! But don’t forget to bring a dish or bring some unwanted yarn if you’ve got it.

Gloomy Day

Monday, November 19th, 2007

Today is wet and gloomy. A perfect day to finish this hat I’m working on.

I really want to start on the scarf, and then once this set is done, I can start busting through the many dishcloths I’ve got to knit by Xmas.

I need a nap.

Gaining Ground

Monday, November 12th, 2007

I’m currently knitting this hat and scarf set. I don’t actually know if who I’m giving this to will actually wear it, but I think it’s really cute and that’s all that really matters with knitting. If I don’t personally love something, I won’t be able to knit it. I’ll just get bored and stop.

So far, I’m about 1/3 way through the hat. It started out kind of hard because I have trouble knitting on double points. But, now that I’ve switched to my circular needle, it’s going pretty fast.

Here it is so far:

got a ways to go...

Find

Tuesday, November 6th, 2007

My mother showed up at my front door this weekend not only prepared to babysit 3 kids while Jason and I slipped away on a date, but with a bag full of this. Thirty balls of it. Plus some super soft Patons yarn.

We estimated the total value to be around $300. And she paid $25 for the entire bag.

Score! Looks like it’s going to be a merry Xmas after all… :)

Off To A Good Start

Friday, November 2nd, 2007

I promised myself I would start knitting Xmas gifts when November rolled around, and so, even though I was dead tired last night, I did.

This is one I’m planning on giving to a bunch of people. It reminds me of those kitchen floor mats we had when I was a kid. I think I got this one off Knitting Troll’s blog.

The pattern is also really easy and doesn’t require looking back at the directions every 5 seconds. Once you’ve got the first 2 rows, you’re set.

I sat on the couch watching Transformers and knitting for about a half hour before I decided I better stop before I make a really stupid mistake from exhaustion. Anyway, off to a good start.

Calling All Knitters

Tuesday, October 23rd, 2007

I need a little help from my (crafty) friends.

My plan is to begin knitting Xmas gifts once November hits, but I’m still looking for great dishcloth and hand towel patterns.

If you know of any, or want to pass on your own, please contact me! Thanks!

The Most Bestest

Friday, October 12th, 2007

Whenever I find something really cool, I usually try and keep it to myself, so it doesn’t catch on and become a trend.

Don’t you hate that? When you’re the first one to have something or do something, and then all of a sudden everyone has it/is doing it?

But I can share this because I know a bunch of people already know about this site with the most amazing vintage and retro fabrics and patterns!

I’ve dusted off my sewing machine and I’m getting ready to make…something. Anything! With these designs, it doesn’t matter. Anything, even a tea cozy or curtains, will look amazing.

Baby’s 1st Haircut!

Wednesday, June 6th, 2007

To celebrate Squid turning 14 months old today I decided to give Little Man his very first haircut. Jason and I had briefly discussed taking him to a trendy salon in Oakland that specializes in Baby’s 1st Haircut. They give out balloons and certificates with a baggy of hair. They put cartoons on and seat kids in posh pony or racecar seats. It all sounded very good, except for one thing. There is no way in hell Squid would allow a stranger to touch him! He doesn’t even welcome LOOKS let alone someone’s hands on his head, clipping away!

So, I decided to do it myself. I waited until he was well awake but not overly tired. I gave him a bottle and some toys to play with. Then I sat him down on the bathroom floor and went to work. I used Jason’s clippers with the plastic 1″ attachment. It worked perfectly!

Squid was a little weirded out at first, maybe even a little nervous. The clippers aren’t exactly quiet. But as soon as I said, “It’s okay, baby,” and started talking him through it, he was all smiles. In the end, he was loving his new look!

Here’s Squid PRE-cut:

And here he is POST-cut:

How cute is that!?!?
