The Big Sweep

Monday, May 12th, 2008

It’s that time again…Squid’s clothes are getting small and short and it turns out wearing crop tops and floods isn’t so cute on a 2 year old boy. I decided to do four different things with all his old clothes. One: I gave a bunch to a friend of a friend who has an 11-month old baby boy. He’ll grow into the stuff pretty quick since he’s a good sized little peanut. Two: I took a bunch to my favorite kid’s consignment shop in the city. Three: I’m selling some of it on eBay. Yeah, I’ve got that much of it. And I actually enjoy selling stuff on eBay. (P.S. If you don’t, find one of those iSold It stores and they’ll do the work for you.) And Four: Keeping the really, really special and memorable outfits. If I could, I’d keep everything, but I can’t. It’s just not possible. It used to break my heart a bit when I had to get rid of Squid’s clothes, but now I’m more practical. I understand that I CANNOT be one of those pack rat moms. ‘Cuz that’s just weird. And a teensy bit creepy.

My Sweet Mom’s Day

Monday, May 12th, 2008

The boys got me this insane balloon that sings. That was the best. It’s a gift that just keeps on giving…like this morning at around 6 am.

Jason bought me roses and took me out to a surprise brunch. He also let me go wild in Williams-Sonoma. I love those days! He holds the baby on his shoulders and stands out of the way, and just watches me shop. Then he steps up to the counter and pays for it all. Could there be anything better in the whole world?

It was a great weekend, to say the least. We had a lot of fun, mostly dancing around to my ginormous singing balloon. Hope you all had a great Mom’s Day…now, it’s Monday…and back to Kid’s Day. Isn’t it always? :)

In Need Of Inspiration

Tuesday, May 6th, 2008

Both Jason and I have been feeling a little beaten down lately. Between trying to save money and looking for a house, raising our kids and pursuing our own personal goals (the usual stuff), it sometimes gets to be a little bit frightening. I feel like the days just go by so fast. I think I try to tackle too much all at once and as a result, don’t truly finish anything. I need to just take a deep breath and do one thing at a time. This morning I read an inspiring article about some of history’s great figures and how they succeeded. When it comes down to it, it’s not that hard, really. I think the most important thing is to keep hope alive and to work hard. I can always tell that I have really worked hard and accomplished things I feel good about if at the end of the day I don’t feel guilty. I just feel content and happy. If I’ve been lazy and made excuses then I feel like crap and I start to tell myself I need to do better. As long as before I go to bed I can look back and honestly say I did all I could, I know that some good will come out of it.

The Bestest

This is my favorite new picture of Squid. His eyes look so expressive, which they always are. I just love the way this photo turned out. It’s perfect. It’s so my boy!

Put ‘Em To Work!

Wednesday, April 30th, 2008

This is good for your kids. It’s called ChoreCharts.com and what they do is offer these free printable chore charts. I’m totally into organization, even though I’m not that good at it, and this is a really smart way for families to assign and organize chores around the house. Teaching your kids to be responsible by helping out around the house is really important. You can give them monetary encouragement, a.k.a. allowance, or just a pat on the back. :) I’m all for the pat on the back. At least until they get old enough to understand the importance of earning and saving money. Until then, having your kids do chores should be a non-negotiable. That’s just the way I see it: everyone helps out and everyone benefits from a clean and healthy home.

Fucking Roofers!

Tuesday, April 29th, 2008

I’m so pissed right now. Blog it out, honey, blog it out.

(Deep breath)

So, I just put Squid down for a nap (finally!) and who shows up? Roofers! Loud roofers fixing some bullshit hole in our…you guessed it, ROOF!

Oh. My. God. They are so loud!

I just hope Squid doesn’t wake up. It’s been so difficult lately to get him down in the afternoon.

(Sigh)

Whatever. I’ll deal with it if he does wake up. It’s just a pain in the ass, ‘cuz if he doesn’t have his nap, he’s a total nightmare come bedtime.

Please, please, please don’t wake up!

Ocean Lovers

Monday, April 28th, 2008

We were total beach freaks this weekend. I never wanted to leave. Because of the nice weather, there were hoards of people at the ocean. And little Squidy..how could he not love the ocean? It’s in his name. I think it’s somehow in his blood, too. He couldn’t get enough of the water. And when we got home, all he wanted to do was take a bath and splash around in there for an hour! Poor thing was just a shriveled little prune by the time he got out. I think when we move and he has his own bedroom, we’re gonna have to do a whole nautical theme. There’s this website that sells nautical jewelry - I know because I really love sand dollars and they have this white gold sand dollar pendant that I want for my birthday. Anyway, they have all this cool sailboat and fishing stuff and it got me thinking that a little boy’s room with one of those fishing nets filled with real sand dollars, and maybe some tiny painted sailboats on the wall, would be all the cuteness I could stand.

Newest Words

Wednesday, April 9th, 2008

So, my big 2 year-old is super talkative lately, and here’s what he has to say when he’s not screaming, “NO!”

Coffee
Peeza (Pizza)
Odnin (”Odin”…our friends’ dog)
Money
Work
Seepin’ (Sleeping)
West (Rest)
Bankey (Blanket)
Shou-shou (Shower)
Ka-Ka (You know…)
Tank-u (Thank you)
Yo Welgum (You’re welcome)

I love the Thank you’s and You’re welcome’s. Hey, at least he’s polite about having tantrums every 15 minutes.
