Birthday Boy

Monday, April 7th, 2008

The birthday party went so well! We all had so much fun, and of course I have a ton of pictures that I’ve got to get uploaded this week.

It was at about Elmo and Squid totally loved it. He got so many cool new toys and clothes…just unpacking all his presents took a full afternoon. He’s already ripped through them all and they are scattered all around the living room as I type.

We had crazy fun at the park. There was a juggler who made all the kids balloon animals. It was pretty cute. And the weather was awesome. So much better than last year, where we all froze our asses off in Golden Gate Park (this year we celebrated in Sunnyvale).

But, wow, Jason and I were so out of control tired after it all. We got home from the South Bay Saturday night but I don’t think it hit us until Sunday afternoon. We took Squid out for a birthday breakfast (his actual birthday was yesterday), and when we got home the three of us crashed for - no kidding - 4 hours!

And, honestly, I think I could go for another 4 hour nap right about now.

Pictures to come…

He Draws

Thursday, March 13th, 2008

Squid just starting drawing. Now he makes pretty Crayola pictures.

He also throws his crayons. Hard. And last night he drew all over the dishwasher and kitchen floor.

Isn’t that sweet?

New Routine

Friday, March 7th, 2008

Oh, wow. Squid’s new “thing” is getting up in the middle of the night and wanting to come sleep with us. It would be great if he didn’t take the entire bed, pushing me out of it entirely. I remember the days when I used to want him to enter this stage. Now, functioning on 4 hours of sleep, I’m pretty much over it.

Playdate

Wednesday, March 5th, 2008

Squid has his first playdate today. I mean, he’s played with other kids, but he’s never had a “date” before!

This is the most excitement we’ve seen in a while.

Already Here Again

Tuesday, March 4th, 2008

I can’t believe Squid’s birthday is in a month. Are we already here again???!?

I’m trying to figure out what to do for his party. I’m still leaning toward the whole park/BBQ idea. We did it last year, and at this age, I think it’s perfect. That way everyone can just do their own thing, eat, drink and have fun without having a structured schedule like you would at an amusement park or bowling alley or something like that. Besides, Squid is still easy in the entertainment department. He’s happy just to have some space to run.

Kai-Goo!

Wednesday, February 27th, 2008

That’s what Squido calls his new favorite cartoon (yeah, that’s right…Teletubbies is, like, so 2007), Caillou.

Every morning now it’s, “Kai-Goo!”

I really like Caillou. The scenarios/episodes make sense and have good messages and morals. I’m not a huge fan of the puppets, though, that are intermittently thrown in there. Squid doesn’t, either. He always gets a little impatient, so we end up fast-forwarding those parts. Puppets are a real big thing in our house, unless they’re Sesame Street characters like Elmo and Cookie Monster…and, well, all of those guys. Squid can handle them then. And I agree. We pretty much have the same taste in cartoons. Now I just gotta get him into Spongebob.

Time For A Cut

Thursday, February 7th, 2008

Jason’s been giving me hell for letting the back of Squid’s hair grow into dreadlocks. So, I decided it was time for a cut.

Here he is just about to get cut:

before cut

And this is him mid-cut (not too happy):

mid-cut

But, in the end, he was pleased with his new do:

Toddler Much?

Tuesday, February 5th, 2008

Squid’s vocabulary is starting to get scary.

He used to say, “Ah-Da!” for “All Done!” and now it’s turned into, “All Done!” for “All Done!”

It seriously makes me want to cry and smile at the same time.

I knew that he would eventually make the transition from baby to toddler, but I don’t really want it to happen. Ever!
