Oh, Now I Get It

Saturday, May 3rd, 2008

I was trying to figure out what the heck “yearblook” meant. I’m pretty slow on the uptake with these things. After all, I’m the girl who didn’t realize until about a year ago what Leggo My Eggo meant. I know. Don’t even laugh.

So, it’s “yearbook” mixed with “blog,” which isn’t even hard but it took me about 10 minutes. I’m only on my second cup of coffee…

My friend suggested I submit some posts to it. I checked it out, and the idea kind of scares me, actually. Basically what it is is a book that is published (like, real, hard copy - not online, in other words) each year containing one post for each day…365 posts total. It’s a look at what was going on in the “blogosphere” for that year. Here’s more.

It’s a really cool idea, but A) who would buy it? and B) would you really want your inane ramblings to be published in a blogosphere book? That would be like admitting that this is what you do!

I mean, it is what I do, but I still kind of want to remain in denial about that!

But what would be cool is to have a book that is just yours to keep of all your favorite posts, or in my case, it would be like all of the posts about Squid - kind of a bloggy scapbook. That would be nice, right? I would definitely be into that. And that would take care of the mound of scrapbook stuff I’ve been swearing I’ll get together and finish since Squid was born.

Host With The Most

Wednesday, April 30th, 2008

For the top 10 web hosting services, there’s a very self-explanatory site called Top10WebHosting.com. It’s that easy. Go there and find out which sites are good, which ones aren’t so good, and what will work best for your website and/or blogging needs. A bonus is that here, you’ll find hosting sites that come with free domain names. I know it was kind of annoying when I was getting my site started that I had to not only pay for my host but for my domain name, as well. And then there’s all the “extras” that you need…it adds up. This way it’s sort of a package deal and you don’t have so much to worry about. If you’re thinking of staring up your own site, go to Top10WebHosting.com to learn more and to catch up on the latest news in web hosting.

A few days ago I wrote a post about a site that offers free web tutorials. I don’t know what most of this stuff even means, but I do know a little. For example, when I started this site, I didn’t know what html was. I didn’t know was RSS or CSS or any of that was. I still kind of like to think I can block it out and just write. But you have to teach yourself at some point, and I remember that it was really hard in the beginning. Well, luckily, the blog I wrote about last Friday has tons of articles on “how to” do just about everything on the web. How to create a header, how to define options, how to do edit your html. Plus lots of other stuff I still don’t get. It’s the perfect site to bookmark because believe me, you’ll be going back to it a lot.

Show Your Support

Friday, April 11th, 2008

There are so many causes to support. Environmental, social and otherwise. I try to give money when I can, but that’s not always possible. When it isn’t, keeping up and commenting on important issues that affect humans, animals and nature is a way to show your continuing support. Whether it’s reading activist blogs such as this one that asks to Stop Columbia’s Expansion Project or attending a protest, you can make a difference. It may sound trite. But it’s right.

Money For Nothing And Chicks For Free

Wednesday, April 9th, 2008

Want to earn easy money from home? If you’re a SAHM, the answer is YES, even if you don’t think it is. You might think of going back to work now, but just wait until your baby is calling out, “Mamma” as you walk out the door. Your mind will most likely change. Fast. So, why not have the best of both worlds…you know, take care of your babe at home and make enough to fill your pocketbook and buy all those adorable Janie and Jack outfits for your little one?

I do it. And here’s how: SocialSpark! It’s a super cool, super easy and most importantly, super FREE network that allows you to hook up with advertisers and make money online. All you need is a blog. And let’s face it. If you’re a new parent staying home with your child, blogging is the one thing that can perhaps save you from turning into a child yourself.

Every stay-at-home mom and dad has a blog these days. You kind of have to. At least, if you wanna be considered cool. No pressure.

Once you’ve got that going for you, Social Spark does the rest. Along with your help, advertisers get their names and products out there and you get paid! It just makes sense, doesn’t it? Or you can leave home and have a nanny raise your baby. Gwen Stefani, Reese Witherspoon, Angelina Jolie, Nicole Richie, along with every Tom, Dick and Harry in Hollywood does it! Again, no pressure.

Just try SocialSpark for yourself. You’ll see.
