Yay, Dresses!!

Wednesday, August 27th, 2008

I had my 2nd trimester sono yesterday and we found out….

IT’S A GIRL!!!

Jason and I are so shocked and so excited!

A little tiny princess to play dress up with! Yes! Now the challenge is thinking up names. Some of the ones I like are way too trendy, and some are just too plain, and others just don’t sound right for the person I think my little girl is going to be. HELP!! Any clever, cute, fun, adorable name suggestions out there?! We were sure it was a boy, so we already figured out some cool boy names, and now we’re stuck.

I like:

Addie and Edie…pretty much anything that ends in an “ie.”

Jason likes Meredith, which I’m not crazy about. And our baby book is kind of worthless. All the names are either super gross/weird (Bathsheeba, anyone?) or way too boring.

I’m open to suggestions!

I Hate Sippy Cups

Thursday, August 21st, 2008

Ahhh! I’m so frustrated with all the stupid sippy cups that aren’t Gerber. Turns out Gerber’s are the only ones that actually work.

I think I’ve bought every kind of sippy cup, and last night we had a horrible disaster. Squid was sleeping with me in the bed (he likes to have a sippy cup of water when he sleeps) and his cup leaked everywhere. I woke up around 3:30 and the sheets and pillows, and HIM, were all wet! I was so tempted to go into the kitchen right then and throw all the sippy cups in the cupboards away. I was so pissed. I had to pull off Squid’s clothes and make a barrier that blocked the wet spots. Of course, Squid woke up and started crying and I almost wanted to start crying, as well. I was so tired and so mad. NOT a good combination.

It was just the last straw. I am so pissed that I’ve spent like $50 on cups that promise to work and don’t. So, today I’m going to Target and just buying the regular old Gerber ones. If I had just stuck with those in the first place, I would have saved myself many headaches. Note to all parents: DON’T BELIEVE PLAYTEX AND EVENFLO AND FIRST YEARS AND ALL THE OTHER BRANDS BESIDES GERBER. THEY’RE CRAP!!!!

Ah, that feels better. :)

Help A Good Cause

Wednesday, August 20th, 2008

Many of you may already know that November 13th is National Memory Screening Day. I was reminded of this because I recently had a conversation with a friend about how her grandmother is suffering from Alzheimer’s and how it has affected everyone in their family. There are several causes aimed at helping those with Alzheimer’s by raising money to fund educational and awareness efforts. Many of them take place in the Fall.

For instance, The Alzheimer’s Memory Walk is the nation’s largest event to raise money for Alzheimer care, support and research. People from over 600 communities join together to participate in a 2-3 mile Memory Walk. This and other events need volunteers and participants! By teaming up with the Alzheimer’s Association, you can walk for an excellent cause and help get us closer to a world without Alzheimer’s.

Even if you don’t know anyone with significant memory loss, it is important for older people to be ahead of the game and to detect early signs of memory loss if there may be any. It’s just like doing self breast exams. Better to be on the lookout and be aware of the signs of problems as early as possible.

Alzheimer’s devastates families all across the world. It is NOT a normal part of aging. It is a neurological disorder that attacks the brain’s cells, causing dementia. You might be surprised to know that it is the seventh leading cause of death in the United States, so it’s very important to do all you can to help!

Clothes That Actually Freaking Fit

Tuesday, August 12th, 2008

I dragged Jason and the baby to Gap Maternity yesterday in the Embarcadero. I was beginning to feel like a real loser. None of my clothes were fitting and at almost 17 weeks, I am definitely feeling (and looking) pregnant.

I ran around like a madwoman and bought everything I tried on. Yes, everything. It was a total score. Everything fit perfectly and looked cute and I didn’t feel like a whale anymore. And today, I’m wearing my new adorable jeans and vintage V-neck. I seriously feel like a whole new person. It’s amazing what some new (maternity) clothes will do.

Now I don’t want to cry every day when I get up and look in my closet. Yay!

No More Painting

Friday, August 1st, 2008

Yes! Our painters have finally left. I guess I haven’t written about the mess that has been going on lately, but just so you know, we’ve had painters here for about 2 weeks. They were here while we were on vacation (which was no big deal, except for the mess they made), and then they came back to do the outside of the house a couple weeks ago. It’s just been hectic, with guys here everyday, going in and out, making noise and piling their crap everywhere. I’m so glad it’s over! I got my house (and my privacy) back.

Another Week

Friday, August 1st, 2008

Another week has gone by and I haven’t updated. Although my first trimester is over, I’m still feeling a little sick. I can’t believe it’s already August 1st. In 25 days, I will know the sex of my baby! This pregnancy is flying by. I’m not showing yet but I’m definitely starting to feel the discomfort. I can’t sleep on my belly or my back. My clothes are getting tighter and I feel that dreadful time of maternity shopping is right around the corner. Sigh. I’m 15 weeks today. I think the baby is about the size of a lime. So why does it already feel like a cantaloupe in my uterus? ;)
