Locked Out
I went to walk to dogs this evening and I specifically made sure I had my keys in my pocket.
I closed and locked the door and went about the normal routine.
When I returned home, around 15 minutes later, I found that the keys I had were my OLD keys. Meaning the keys to our house before we had our locks changed over the summer (another long story).
I was locked out. In the cold. With Squid. And my two dogs. No cell phone. No money.
I rang my neighbor’s door bell. Both of them. Nothing.
It was 4:30, so it wasn’t like anyone was going to be home soon. Great.
I decided to keep walking and think about what the hell I was going to do. Then I remembered the nice woman who always says “hi” to me as I pass her house with the dogs. She has a Lab, herself, which just went blind.
I rang her door and YES! She rescued us! She gave me her cell phone, invited me upstairs, gave me and Squid some water and let our dogs have her Lab’s bones. Well, they sort of just helped themselves, but she didn’t stop them. :)
When she told me she had to leave soon, I thought about the next place I’d find shelter while waiting for Jason to return home. But, no, she said I could stay in her house for as long as I wanted and even gave me her TiVo remote! Um…what?!?!? I’m telling you, this woman is a saint! Or an angel. She totally saved us!
So, Squid and I curled up on her stylish, red leather couch and watched Ellen until Jason got home. Not a bad night for being locked out.
