Pet Peeves, Part II
I am lucky to have married a man who loves to shop. Jason and I went a little crazy this past weekend. We got new pots, new silverware, a bunch of other stuff for the house, a new car seat for Squid…I even got a new pink silicone bundt pan. Awesome.
Anyway, here comes the part about the pet peeves.
I wanted to stock up on lotions and bath products at Bath and Body Works. Jason nodded and dutifully followed me, pushing Squid. (Did I mention how lucky I am?) I swear, the guy might love spending money even more than I do.
So, we walk in and are immediately greeted by not one but two sales people. “HELLO! JUST SO YOU KNOW, THESE ARE OUR NEW SCENTS…” I type in capital letters because that is how LOUD and annoying they were. But it’s just a greeting. Whatever.
I begin walking around the store, but no sooner have I stepped three feet when another, different woman approaches me. “BLAH BLAH BLAH SOMETHING ABOUT A SALE BLAH BLAH.” Uh, huh, okay, I tell her and roll my eyes at Jason.
Then another girl approaches Jason! “BLAH BLAH BLAH, YOU SHOULD TRY THIS, BLAH BLAH.” At this point, I’m getting hot. I continue to walk, hoping no one will speak to us again. After all, I told them I’m just looking, just want to browse around.
Again! A girl with an equally grating sing-song voice steps to us. “THIS STUFF MAKES YOUR BODY TINGLE! HA HA, OH BUT IN A GOOD WAY. HA HA.”
I am now visibly mad. I spin around to Jason, “Is it me?”
“NO! This place is completely out of control!” he says.
Finally, I just run to the cash register and book it out of there. I would have just left without purchasing anything at all, but I had a coupon and you know me and coupons. I can’t see a good one go to waste.
Once we were out of there and my breathing had become normal again, I said what I always say after an experience like that…”I’m writing a letter!” But this time, I actually did! I sent an email right away and just this morning got a response.
$25 gift card, yo! Just enough to cover the emotional damage.

Ah, the lure of the coupon… I agree that Bath & Body is so damn annoying with their “helpfulness”. I am so writing a letter because $25 free gift certificate is better than a coupon any day!

WHA?!
You freakin’ RULE!!! (Bath and Body Works style)

No kidding….25 bucks. I must look into this letter writing thing.

Almost worth it! Yeah, that store drives me absolutely nuts. I try to run in and out because of the sales staff and because I’m usually holding my breath. I get an insta-headache from all the perfume smells. Being preggers with headache is not good for me since I can’t really take anything.
Good job on not chocking anyone!

Good for you. I hate it when I go into a store and the salespeople are pushy. I wish they would learn you get more with honey then mustard and leave you alone to browse around when you want to. If every one would write in and complain the companies might learn to train their people better. Keep up the good work. Sounds like your husband is great. Old Timer

To Pet Peeves One of my greatest is just this thing you wrote about. If companies would learn to train their people nopt to be so pushy I think they would have better sales. I have walked out of many stores becau se of this but never thought of writing in and complaining I just don’t go back again.

Oh, I hear you. Pushy sales people are right up there with telemarketers. Stop invading my space!!! But good for you on getting something out of your troubles. I gotta try that next time!

Is it wrong if I make up a bad experience to get a $25 gift card. (hee hee)
Seriously though…that would have gotten on my last nerve too.
And lastly how in the hell did you luck in to finding a man that loves to shop. I didn’t think that existed.

I couldn’t understand some parts of this article Pet Peeves, Part II, but I guess I just need to check some more resources regarding this, because it sounds interesting.
