Girl Night Out
Tuesday, February 27th, 2007I’ve finally come to the realization that I can’t spend every night at home. As much as I love being in the comfort of my own space - whether it be writing on my laptop, watching T.V., laying on my bed listening to music, rolling around with Squid in my living room, roaming around the kitchen sifting through recipes or whatever, I have begun to feel the itch to get out! My husband has his weekly band practice, during which he gets to go bang drums for three hours. So why not have my own night? I decided it would be Mondays.
So, I found this. I took the scenic route, purposely driving out of my way to see the city lights from the top of Portola. It hit me, coming down that hill in the soft rain, that it has been way too long since I’ve seen the city at night. Not so long ago you could have found me in any random nightclub, hailing any random taxi, downing cocktails in divey bars and smoking Marlboros outside on dimly lit sidewalks.
Oh, how my life has changed! And while, I wouldn’t give it up for a second, it felt wonderfully freeing to get away, even for just 2 hours! The bar was warm, the drink was cold, the company was great. More importantly, the company was different. The company was not my husband nor my baby!
In short, I’m definitely making Mondays my night from here on out. I forgot how important balance is. I do admit, however, that when I arrived back home, I couldn’t wait to check on Squid! He was sleeping, of course, but I just had to see him. God, I could have woken him up just so I could hug him and hear his little squeaky greeting…”Oh-Oh-Bay…AH!”
