Remembering You Always

It’s (surprisingly) been 15 years since my grandpa passed away. I can’t really believe so much time has passed already. I was twelve years old when he died and the news hit me hard. I loved him so much and the more I grow, the more I realize it was he who taught me how to truly enjoy life, how to laugh no matter what and take pleasure in the little things. Happy Birthday Grandpa!

This Grandpa of yours looks like he was a man who could make people very happy. From the wristwatch on his right hand and his rightful grey hair, adding 15 years, I’ll bet he was left-handed, would have been about 92 today, and seeing his great-grandsons, would have held both on his lap with just as big a smile as he had holding you. May have even make them each a “one-eyed sandwich.”

I’m wondering (or maybe I’m NOT), what made me check your blog this evening for a second time today. Maybe Mr. & Mrs. Squirrel needed a good cry.

i love this. i remember losing my grandmother at around this same age, and recall finding out so many wonderful and exotic things about her after she was gone. how lucky you had the connection with your grandfather. it’s something we all need to cultivate.

    Hi Jos —
Nice post. It’s good to be reminded of a day that too often passes with me forgetting.
    Thanks.

Isn’t it amazing what an impact grandparents have on our lives, especially since they are usually around for such a short part of it?

I was just thinking about this very same thing a few days ago. Not your grandfather, of course. Mine. I was about 9 or 10 when he passed and still miss him.
