Can You Say Timewarp?

Wednesday, January 31st, 2007

Today I pretended it was the 1950’s. Well, I didn’t mean to, it just worked out that way. I started the day by making coffee and ironing Jason’s clothes. (I usually don’t iron at all, but his pants had weird creases from the hanger, so they really needed to be pressed.) Then I cleaned the house. I did some knitting and watched I Love Lucy on TNT. I made a pot roast and steamed broccoli for dinner. I even wore an apron - yellow with red apples on it. How did this happen? I’m not exactly sure. If I start putting curlers in my hair and wearing high heels and dresses every day, some one please slap me silly.

In keeping with the theme, I took these pictures today, as well. Enjoy!

“Sometimes Nothin’ Can Be a Real Cool Hand…”

Sunday, January 28th, 2007

I have been so incredibly uninspired to write for the past four days. And, although my brain has been spitting, “You need to blog, you need to blog!” at me, I have rejected its taunting and spent my time doing other things…like starting War and Peace (I’m not kidding!). I’ve washed my dogs (I’m serious!) and I even changed the litter box a few times (no joke!). Sometimes not writing a blog can be a great thing, it turns out. A real cool hand.

Remembering You Always

Wednesday, January 24th, 2007

It’s (surprisingly) been 15 years since my grandpa passed away. I can’t really believe so much time has passed already. I was twelve years old when he died and the news hit me hard. I loved him so much and the more I grow, the more I realize it was he who taught me how to truly enjoy life, how to laugh no matter what and take pleasure in the little things. Happy Birthday Grandpa!

Idol Wise

Tuesday, January 23rd, 2007

It’s a sad day when your husband kisses you goodbye in the morning and says, “See you tonight…FOR IDOL!” Yes, dear, because there isn’t any other reason for which you could possibly look forward to coming home! Aw, who am I kidding. I freaking love American Idol! I especially love watching the idiots that come on now hoping to cash in like William Hung by being the worst, most hideous vocalists of the season. Shameless actors!

Idol Wise…no longer just a German flower.

Special

Saturday, January 20th, 2007

Here’s a conversation from today that I could have lived without:

Special Person walks up to You Da Mom. Special Person’s eyes divert down to You Da Mom’s chest. (No, Special Person is not a man!) Special Person raises eyebrows and says…

“Still breastfeeding?”

You Da Mom: No.

Special Person: Oh. No?

You Da Mom: Nope.

Special Person appears to be confused. “Oh.” Special Person looks again at You Da Mom’s chest. “Did you stop recently?”

You Da Mom: No.

Special Person attempts a recovery, but sadly fails. “A few months ago?”

You Da Mom: Try six.

Now, isn’t that just special? Seriously, though, that is the equivalent of staring at someone’s belly and asking, “When are you due?” And they’re not even pregnant.

Not. Cool.

Thank You, Thank You, Thank You!

All you mamas who (virtually) patted my back and told me that weaning Squid off the night-wakings and 2 a.m. bottle-feedings was O.K. to do, that it was O.K. to let him cry a little…THANK YOU!

It’s been four days now of no running to the crib in the middle of the night, no picking Squid up, no feeding him when I should be dreaming. The first night, his cries were more of a wail - the hardest to bear. The second, they calmed a bit to an anxious plea. The third, they were nothing more than a slight groaning. And they are now barely awakenings! He still lets out a few little yelps, but now quickly goes back to sleep.

It’s as if he still wants me to know how things used to be done, how he used to have the power to get my tired ass out of bed! “Hey, you! Yeah, you in the next room! I still have you tied around my littlest baby fingers!” And, yes, he most certainly does. But I’m not the least bit guilty in letting sleep back into my life. (There’s more than enough room for both!)

Because

Saturday, January 13th, 2007
  • Because 70% of Americans oppose sending more troops to Iraq
  • Because 3,017 Americans have been killed in the war since it began in 2003
  • Because the war in Iraq is a war of choice, not necessity
  • Because George Bush has consistently lied about Iraq’s nuclear threat to America
  • Because the war in Iraq has cost us over 300 billion dollars over 4 years, money that could have insured over 200 million kids for one year, paid for 50 million children to attend Head Start for one year, provided 17 million college students with four-year scholarships, built 3 million additional housing units and hired over 6 million public school teachers for one year
  • Because the leaders of Congress are smarter than the President
  • Because no one recovers from the loss war brings
